TEA Explorer

Read poems written by George that were inspired by Antarctica

George is currently teaching Global Earth Systems and Conceptual Chemistry at Gig Harbor High School. George went to the Antarctic in 1995 for seven weeks aboard the RV Polar Duke as a member of the Wade Jeffreys' research team from the University of West Florida gathering data for the study of ultraviolet light on marine bacterioplankton. He is deeply committed to the TEA (Teachers Experiencing Antarctica) program and to integrating a variety of instructional strategies so that all students, regardless of learning style, will have the opportunity to experience real time, current, and relevant science for the 21st century. He has been actively involved in a wide variety of experiences to include Global Change workshops, Technology seminars, NOAA's Teacher-At-Sea program in 1993, and as a member of the University of Washington's REVEL project which is looking at hydrothermal vents on the Juan de Fuca ridge system off the coast of Washington and Oregon. George has made professional presentations both nationally and internationally regarding his experiences and teaching philosophies. George believes that the TEA program provides an opportunity to integrate real time research, science, and relevancy to public school classrooms.
