Greetings,

Today, I helped Darren Bake again with his stream plot. Tim Alessi , another REU student from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh also helped. We collected relative elevation data from survey points in the grid that we laid out yesterday. As I mentioned yesterday, this data will be used to create surface map of the grid area.

When we finished, we hiked up the glacier to the hole that I have weights in. I will be collecting GPR data at the site tomorrow. We laid out three more profile lines at 10m intervals up glacier from the hole that are oriented approximately 90o to the flow of the glacier. GPR data will be collected along these lines. The surface of the glacier is the fastest moving portion, so the weights that are in the hole will lag behind the opening at the surface to an increasing degree with depth. Radar data collected along these lines should reveal reflections off of the weights as the position of the hole opening shifts down ice relative to the weights in the hole.

I will be spending the rest of the afternoon and evening drying out my gear. The rain from yesterday has gotten everything wet. I also need to water seal my boots again. Hiking over rocks and gravel on the ice has stripped them bare. There is nothing worse than working all day with wet feet!

I will be processing more photos tonight, so stay tuned for more images.......
