Greetings......
This morning I was able to collect GPR data on the two bore holes that I
have been working with. It was striking today how much the holes have
closed up over the last week. When they were first bored into the ice, the
had a diameter of over six inches. Today, there was only about two inches
of open space left (at least as far down the hole as I could see).
After collecting this data, I out to Tim Alessiąs project site. He is a REU
student from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. Tim needed to take
some slices from downed trees to determine how old they are (how old they
were when they died). Tim is attempting to correlate the age of vegetation
to the depth of soil over buried ice.
Unfortunately after packing the chain saw two miles up hill through thick
brush we werenąt able to get it to run very well. So we decided to pack it
back in and call it a day. We plan to use a different saw tomorrow, and
will head back out first thing in the morning.
Clouds and a few showers today........
