Hello everyone!

I spent a good part of my morning playing around with the station microscope. It is a wonderful instrument that will take digital pictures of your microscopic treasures. I prepared slides from

diatom "scum" collected in the the outside tanks and took several digitals.

The ship is due to arrive on Wednesday and there is lots of commotion on station with people trying to finish up tests, collect data and equipment, and pack and crate things. After my microscope work, I got busy with cleaning and cataloging the artifacts I will be bringing back to the states. I found several pieces of foam and bubble wrap, along with cardboard boxes that should suffice nicely. I did a few domestic things as well. Two loads of laundry and of course, "house mouse." Today is my last house mouse duty day.......kind of sad really! I must remember to teach this game to my children at home!! My house mouse partner was Gary Braasch and together we had to vacuum the upstairs dormitory of GWR, clean the windows in the computer

room, and sweep and mop the stairwells. A station meeting followed at 3:30. Everything moves like clockwork around here. Several people will be leaving on the ship this Friday, and heartfelt goodbye's and thank you's were exchanged. It dawned on me how quickly this place transitions into a new community, and how much I am going to miss

being a part of it.

Saturday is traditionally "make your own pizza" night. Everyone seems to enjoy the simple traditions that exist here. Tonight was no exception and everyone had a made to order, just the way you like it, homemade style pizza. The socializing continued, but not for me. I

am beat and in need of sleep.

Until tomorrow...

Mimi

Another interesting diatom specie I found growing in the tanks outside.

This is not my slide. Unfortunately, I could not find out who made this nice shot of what looks like jewels....but it is diatoms. Nice, isn't it?
