Although this has little to do with my upcoming Antarctic research trip, it does have to do with introducing students to research themselves. About a year ago, I received a grant from the Douglas County Educational Foundation to introduce my students to astrophotography. Through the process of experimentation, trial & error, my students and I went to work to create the best astrophotographs possible. With the grant, we purchased a Celestron 8" Schmitt-Cassegrain telescope and a Pentax ZX-M manual SLR camera. On several cold but clear Colorado nights, we took pictures of various celestial objects including the moon, constellations, and nebulae. Please check out some of the more interesting photos below.
