Well, we finally "hit ice" as they say. We are in much smoother waters
today, and it is fun to observe from the bridge. I've taken some photos and
video of "pancake" and "grease" ice, both of which are composed of frazil
ice.
The oceanographers will begin their observations at 2000 hrs, which means
stopping for three hours. The ice team will not actually go out onto the
ice for another two or three days, but we have begun our ice observations.
For now, we will meet in teams of 3 every five hours (I am teamed with
Martin and Shusun). Eventually, we will each have our own watch once every
12 hours .
I am feeling much better today than I did yesterday. (I felt so ill
yesterday that I could hardly function)
