Journals 2006/2007Kate Baugher
August 12, 2007 Sampling this morning then a ten-hour boat ride to the keys and more sampling (mooring tonight and going ashore at Key West). I interviewed Libby and the photographer, Dean. I have few more ideas about what to do with my chemistry classes. Libby and I discussed the Oklahoma Water Watch Program and how it can be used in conjunction with an oceanography unit. Dean talked about chemical oceanography and how ocean acidity has increased because of CO2 increases and the balance of it with the atmosphere has changed. A slight change in pH can drastically effect the ecosystem. I also interviewed Peter - quite impressive. I launched a drifter today with our NNHS logo on it. My students will be able to monitor its movement through the currents on line - from Norman. Shore leave was welcome after a day of hard work. I went to Key West's lobster festival - fantastic! |
