Journals 2006/2007Peggy Deichstetter
July 29, 2006 The weather is beautiful. The sea is flat. There is no wind. The dive team is ready to go by nine. I label the nutrient bottles for tomorrow's data collection and fill bags with ice for the aquarium. Then its down time until the boat gets back with more samples. I replace the ice bags in the aquarium just before lunch.
It's a warm day and the ice in the aquarium is melting fast. I replace it again at 2:00. The boat comes back around 3:00. Brenda hands me some algae to press. After pressing the algae, Ken asks if I'd like to go for a boat ride. They are heading out to Tern Island to do some bird watching. I decide to stay with Brenda and Katrin while they fill tanks. We get back just in time for dinner. Before I go to dinner I replace the melted ice.
After dinner, I sieve the five cores the dive team brought back. I put more ice in the aquarium and turn in for the night. |
