July 4, 2007 The ROV went in at 1 pm. Again most of us watched the plasma screen on the fifth deck. We saw a beautiful "Dumbo" octopus, grenadiers, sea lilies, anemones, cucumbers, jellies, ctenophores, and once again textbook knowledge goes out the door. At 8:30 pm we had a chief scientists meeting. The good news is that the ROV worked and went even deeper, deepest, longest dive in Arctic history, the bad news was that no vents were found. However, we did see a large wood fall that had interesting stuff in it. The ROV will try to retrieve that at some point. |
