Earthquake!!!

Today was a big day! I left Denver a little late making my connection in Phoenix very tight. I ran to my gate only to find out that there was an 6.1 M earthquake in San Jose! The airline personnel had us board the plane and then held us on the tarmac until they had assurance that there was an operational airport to land at. Everything sounded safe so we took off.

I had the opportunity to study the published ODP (Ocean Drilling Project) logs to learn more about what I would be doing aboard the R/V Knorr. I studied the ship's layout so I knew where the labs, staterooms and galley were.

When I finally landed, I made my way quickly through immigration and customs and connected with Dr. Rob Pockalny and Mindy Klingensmith. We caught a taxi and drove to our inn where we had a chance to talk about the earthquake and our mission. We finally broke up our informal meeting at 11:30 pm.
