August 14, 2009 Today was a day to analyze the samples collected in the field. In the salt marsh, we collected plant samples of unknown plants that were found in the plots. If a plant was "Unknown", a sample was collected in the field, the location labeled and it was brought back to the lab. In the lab, the plants were identified using books, microscopes and the Internet to key out the species. The plants were also pressed and dried so the researchers could check through the samples later. They have saved years of pressed plants to refer back to if need be. |
