Journals 2009/2010Aundrea Rue
July 28, 2009 After spending the morning in port, we finally get underway at 15:30 (can you figure out when that is in non-military time? Hint: Subtract 12!) and traveled through the night to the Pavlof Islands. The night's sleep started off restful but quickly turned into a thrill ride, with the ship pitching, rolling and heaving through 15-foot swells. My bunkmate and I made it through the night with very little damage to ourselves, our belongings or our room. Not everyone could say the same, though. There were stories of doors slamming with the moving of the ship; televisions falling over and seasickness that kept people awake all night. The crew later told me that we had just experienced the worst swells of the season, thus far. Needless to say, it was a rough night! |
