July 26, 2006 Training today consisted of cetacean data entry, one of my jobs on this cruise will be to help Lindsey, the turtle biologist, enter dolphin behavior data. We spent the morning at the Southwest Fisheries Lab learning the data sheet and the computer program we will be using at sea. The time is getting closer to the actual sailing day. I am nervous, excited, and a little giddish. I am noticing the other members of the cruise are also getting excited, rushing around, packing, and buying all of their last minute items. It is hard for me to imagine going to sea for 4 months. Almost all of the scientists and crew are single, this must be a tough life when relationships are involved. Tomorrow is the big day to move onto the ship. I wonder what my room will look like. I wonder how big the ship will be. I wonder what the food will be like and how busy will I be? What will I be actually doing on this cruise? You can see I have a lot of questions and only time can answer them. |
