Catching wahoo

While I was waiting for the CTD to come back up I was able to catch 6 one foot squid. I put them in a bag and when Iliana woke up she processed them. We are going a little off of the track line to fish the Alejo islands. The crew has been very excited since hearing the news. Anticipation of big fish will excite the whole ship. These are islands 100 miles off shore, sport fishing trips that cost $4,000 fish these islands. Here we do it for research, life is good!

As we made passes we landed 4 wahoo about 40 pounds each, 6 yellow fin tuna about 25 pounds each. I was a busy boy processing these fish; there were 3 of us so I did have a lot of help. I am not as fast as Bob or Gary but we did get the job done. We stopped for a moment to bottom fish. I caught a very colorful trigger fish. I believe Bob told me a male trigger fish has a red tail and female trigger fish has yellow tail. This trigger fish has an orange tail - go figure. I caught a gendered challenged trigger fish. We placed him in the aquarium and we hope he makes it back to the Scripps Aquarium.

Lindsey and I caught up on the dolphin behavior data we had been putting off for a few days, CTD launch and caught 2 small squid all before bedtime.
