Journals 2006/2007Mark Harris
August 4, 2006 During the morning CTD launch there were no squid to be found. We are headed on the track line out to sea, approximately 200 miles off shore. The dolphin sightings are sporadic this far out. I actually took a little personal time and caught up with my email, it is nice to slow down for a minute. I tried out the treadmill, which is a challenge. Trying to run on a treadmill on a swaying ship is not an easy task. Twenty minutes was more than enough for me. The small boat was launched in the afternoon and we were able to catch 3 loggerhead sea turtles. We brought the turtles back to the ship and tagged and sampled them. The rest of the afternoon I spent watching the fishing lines, sounds like a tough job doesn't it. Everyone on the boat is looking forward to the back deck BBQ. The large grill is out and the spread is decadent. Steaks, chicken, grilled fish and some delicious salads the fare of tonight's meal, which all are enjoying. The ship's crew is so friendly and has such interesting personalities; they are just plain fun to around. A full moon is starting to show which is dampening our squid fishing, no squid tonight. I am off to bed. |
