Small Squid

Catching a small squid

The CTD was cancelled due to being behind schedule, not getting up at 4:30 was Ok with me. We went out in the small boat and went through a group of spotted dolphins and Joao put his line in the water. He hooked a large yellow fin tuna, but when he brought it up to the boat we had a problem. How are we going to get a 70 pound tuna into the boat without a gaff? Joao reached down to grab it between the eyes and pull it on board, the fish dove a broke his swivel. We lost the fish and it was a big fish. The consolation was we did catch a 20 pound fish but the big one did get away. I will remember the gaff next time.

We caught a 100 pound turtle; they seem to be getting larger. The turtle took 2 of us to get him back into the water. They are pre-historic and fascinating reptiles to work with, I am glad in my lifetime I did get the chance.

Squid fishing is coming back, caught 2 - 1 footers, that made Iliana happy. The full moon is finally starting to go away.
