Back in Cape Charles

0730. We are docked in Cape Charles. Another sunny calm day. While the ship is refueling and reprovisioning, scientists go for a run through town, walk the beach, mail post cards, and have coffee at a quaint little bank turned Latte Shop. We watch the train load cars on the barge at the waterfront. We do some laundry and change out one Captain and two crew.

The trip to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel begins at 1300. The waters are filled with small fishing boats and a few Container Ships pass by. We pass the Cape Henry Lighthouses in Virginia Beach. These are the site of the first landing of the Virginia colonists. The original brick light stands in the shadows of the newer green and white striped structure at Fort Story Army Base.

Watches are reassigned as we head South past the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Glen, Chief Scientist, works on his lap top to produce graphics of the first week's data. The rest of us eat popsicles and relax on the ship's bow.
