Server has Crashed!

We have major problems on the ship. The main server apparently burned up on the way to Samoa and will not be replaced until we get to New Zealand. As such e-mail is being sent over the same channel as all other ship's business (location, weather, etc.). It also points only one-way so if the ship is not facing the correct direction, no e-mails go out. All is great here. Just took a minute from the lab to try to get this out. Last night we had a "black out" about the same time so the marine mammal people could check for whales, etc. with night seeing devices (light from the ship would cause problems). Anyway, apparently two dolphins were seen at a distance. So far, they are the only marine mammals seen. We are in a "desert" part of the ocean and not much life lives here because there are no producers (photosynthetic plants, animals) to start the food chain. Only an occasional roaming shark or other in this area.
