Moving In

The R/V Roger Revelle has arrived! We are packing to move over to the ship by about 1000hrs. Arrived on board. Passports and luggage checked by 3rd mate to get everyone through customs so we can leave. Captain wants to leave at about 1600hrs on the 18th. We will spend the next two days moving in equipment and securing all items. The sea outside the breakwater in Apia has waves up to 5 meters. After I found my cabin and unpacked I grabbed my camera and made a tour of the ship. The Roger Revelle seemed to have everything. Cabins were nice (bunks long enough for even someone my size), laundry room, library, large dining area, and even a lounge with big screen entertainment were located. I also checked out the laboratory space on the ship, which included one large main lab for sample preparation, a biology lab, a photo dark room, a water lab, a computer lab, and a chemistry lab. Adjoining the labs were several work areas in which equipment could be prepared or worked on. On the rear deck I also noticed several wenches and cranes. Obviously work would be coming soon. Several members of the party got together for one last evening in town before we departed. A meal and social with current and future friends followed.
